About Us
The goal of the Centre for Clinical Research Excellence in Infectious Diseases is to enhance Australia's capacity in patient orientated research in the discipline of infectious diseases, building on the strengths of the Victorian Infectious Diseases Service at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Funding from the NHMRC has enabled us to strengthen out programmes in clinical trials, the study of infections in immunocompromised hosts, infections acquired by travellers and immigrants, nosocomial infections, and the use of computer-assisted decision support for the selection of antibiotics.
The NHMRC CCRE program was established to acknowledge and reward innovative, high quality, human clinical research conducted by established investigators with a strong track record. Investigators must possess the capacity to translate research findings into clinical practice and train independent clinical researchers.
The NHMRC CCRE program aims to:
- support clinical (human) research with potential to lead to improved health outcomes for the community;
- foster training of clinical researchers, particularly those with a capacity for independent research and future leadership roles; and
- ensure effective translation of research outcomes into clinical practice.
